Whilst studying Computer Science at the University of Melbourne I conducted C programming classes for first year students and later graduated and joined Deakin University as a Systems Programmer. While I Deakin I was exposed to Sun Solaris gear from the then popular v880 to F15K range boxes running Solaris 9. The role was diverse as it involved coding the Universitys webmail client in php, or processing tools within C or perl or bash to managing storage servers and backup infrastructure.
After three years I moved to London and joined Rackspace Hosting as a Level 3 Linux Systems Administrator. Whilst at Rackspace I furthered my MySQL study to become the key escalation point for the majority of SMB hosted sites with performance problems. I improved the performance and response time for popular UK websites including a big clothing store to dating site to various other popular eCommerce sites.
After another three and a half years, I returned to Melbourne and joined one of the biggest traffic websites in Australia, realestate.com.au as a Senior Systems Engineer. I am now in my third year at realestate.com.au and have complemented my technical skills by evangelising agile operations.
